Icons look like traffic signs by now, i guess they want SVG standard.
It is not the fault of SVG – I have a full sets of icons like above as SVG and they look as detailed as those – it is the designers and their minimalism.
The world is a huge colorful fractal, and I don’t want e.g. my software to be flat and boring. Flat and boring is a horrible trend and I think it is simply a lack of imagination.
Minimalism can be nice, but not all minimalistic icons are really to be recognized. Depends on culture and intellectual abilities. And unfortunately some designers think they should not produce for a large group of folks and exclude – not nice.
